0 to 100 Real Quick

As Drake would say, I went from zero to 100 real quick. I took an executive assistant/office manager position at Red Productions. We produce commercial videos for clients such as Red Bull, The Dallas Cowboys etc. We also produce movies and shorts. Needless to say, this place is pretty awesome!

When friends and family ask what exactly am I doing I tell them I am the Anne Hathaway (Andrea) of The Devil Wears Prada. Fortunately, my boss is super nice compared to Meryl Streep's character, Miranda. Basically, I do anything and everything that needs to done. I have already gotten to experience VIP passes at the Red Bull Air Race, attended a Culture Index conference in Dallas and attended social gatherings with my boss, Justin (Red) Sanders.

I left Channel 5 to get my foot in the door at a larger market, and personally, have a change of scenery. I was unhappy emotionally and physically. I wanted to meet new people. I have already lost five pounds running literally every single day. Since moving here, I have gone to brunch with new friends, met some people at local eateries, and of course I found the local winery one block from my apartment. I get to walk to work everyday and everything else is in walking distance like food, groceries, etc.. It is perfect! I wanted a more active lifestyle, and I wanted to be in the city. I got both, and am truly blessed.

After being in broadcast for five years, I have come to the realization that I really don't like that world and that world honestly doesn't like me. That is fine by me. I still love sports and hopefully I can start my own podcasts or something like that. In the production world people are more friendly, creativity is encouraged and everyone is valued and respected. I haven't felt this appreciated in any job I have had before, and it is only week three.

I work with extremely talented individuals, seriously. The other great thing about Red Productions is we actually hang out outside of work. We all got together for the Red Bull Air Race and met each other's families. It is the little things like that, that I was missing. I enjoy spending time with coworkers and getting to know them, especially seeing I don't know many people here. We have morning huddles, which are meetings, so everyone is on the same page which is great communication! We also talk Fantasy Football on a regular basis. While my boss is in China, I literally have "Manage Red's Fantasy Football Team" on the To Do list.

My boss started this business 10 years ago and now has seven people full-time employed. To say he is an entrepreneur is an understatement. I hope to learn as much as I can from him and be an asset to this growing production company. We are opening a business in L.A. next month, and currently are working on some pretty exciting ideas. I can't tell ya'll. ;) Side note, the office is really cool.

I took this job with a different mindset. Every time I say this time will be different, and in all honesty it is "this time will be better." We are constantly learning to adapt to everything in our lives, whether it is our work demands, different personalities or growing personally. Some goals I have set for this new opportunity are making sure I am dressed to the nines every single day, wake up early and go to sleep early, work out every day, spend time with my dog, make friends with successful people, live an active lifestyle and try new things.

I have started on all of those goals since I moved here. I wake up at 6:30 a.m. every morning and I go to sleep at 10:00 p.m.. (I know, so lame.) ha I work out every day, which has helped me drop pounds and made me feel more confident. My wardrobe is a lot better than it was in Lubbock. My dog is a chocolate lab and she needs space to run, so on top of working out, I take her to the park every morning and every night. The new things I have tried are juices like kale juices and going into places by myself. I have made friends with teachers, law school students, an air marshal and other interesting people.

I love my job. I get to juggle several things at one time, and there is never a dull moment. I am always on the move and always thinking about how to make things easier and more efficient for Red and the office. I get to attend conferences with successful business owners, go to social gatherings and meet more entrepreneurs with Red, and plan and organize events. Lucky for me I have my talented sister Abby, who is a fabulous event planner, to help me!

I can't say enough about my family for supporting me with this move. I miss my close friends from Lubbock and my sisters especially, but surprisingly I have fit in smoothly here and have yet to get home sick. I know to some people Fort Worth is not a big city, but it is big to me and I am so pumped to call this place home for a long time. People here are so friendly and helpful. I have even made friends with A&M Aggies who are sweet to me. ha I keep my inner Red Raiderness at bay until gameday. I will be back in Lubbock and New Mexico around Christmas, hopefully with a banging body, new look and attitude. Wish me luck!
